Trinity Lutheran Seminary developed a program of student internships and residencies, parish-based faculty development, and pastors-in-residence and visiting faculty programs for parish-based leaders. Student internships and residencies entailed year and two-year long residencies for senior M. Div. candidates in parish churches under mentoring relationships with the church’s pastor and the laity. The parish-based faculty development program enabled Trinity’s full-time faculty to spend an academic term in a parish while they worked with the parish pastor. The final component of the program enabled congregational pastoral leaders to spend a term at the seminary as teaching faculty and pastors-in-residence. These programs developed the seminary’s involvement in contextual education through sustained engagement with local congregations and their leaders and provided a window to parish ministry.
