Under the auspices of this project, Bethel Seminary developed Leadership Vision, a leadership identification program to identify, recruit, and nurture effective leaders for congregational ministry. The program focused on the 17-34 age group and involved high school seniors, college students, post-college professionals, and mid-career change individuals.
Each Leadership Vision event consisted of a process of leadership assessment using tools such as the Myers-Briggs Temperament Indicator, Gallup Strengths-Finder, Character Matrix and Leadership Matrix. These tools assessed the qualities of personal character and servant leadership in the program participants; the process also involved presentation and teachings on leadership and small group activities for reflection on and application of the assessment results. At the end of each Leadership event, the staff offered personalized recommendations for each participants followed by an exit interview.
Leadership Vision events were conducted in partnership with local churches located in major cities of the north and northeast regions including Minneapolis/St. Paul, Los Angeles, and San Diego. By the end of the five-year grant period, Bethel Seminary had conducted over twenty seven Leadership Vision events attended by approximately 2, 247 participants. Several of these participants joined Bethel Seminary degree programs for the purpose of eventual engagement in congregational ministries.
