Abstract:

Supported by the Mexican-American Cultural Center (MACC), project directors Virgilio Elizondo and Timothy Matovina coordinated the dissemination of the findings of the Lilly Endowment-sponsored San Fernando Cathedral project to cathedral rectors, seminarians, theologians, religious educators, liturgists and others interested in the public role of urban religious centers. The dissemination included the publication of two books, seven published articles, over twenty-five presentations, the national and international distribution of a video on the San Fernando Cathedral, a conference held with key leaders, and the development of a course on Public Ritual and Public Witness to be held during Holy Week and designed to become part of MACC’s yearly schedule. The project concluded with the publication of a book dedicated to the pastoral vision of Father Virgilio Elizondo entitled Beyond Borders: Writings of Virgilio Elizondo and Friends, edited by Timothy Matovina (Orbis, 2000).
