Research on Theological Education

Project Number:
850109
Start Date:
Tuesday, January 1, 1985
Abstract:

Building on five years of the reflective efforts of clusters of scholars in different schools across the United States--at Vanderbilt, the University of Chicago, and the School of Theology at Claremont--David Kelsey continued his critical assessment of the current state of theological education. The project probed further into the desire to overcome fragmentation (and promote unity) in theological education as it relates to and conflicts with the need to be more responsive to the actual pluralism of modes of Christian communal identity. A consultation was held with Barbara Wheeler, Edward Farley, James Gustafson, and Van Harvey at the University of Chicago in the Fall of 1986. Kelsey also wrote a book on "the idea of the theological school." (KA)
