Weeks and others utilized this grant to provide assistance and incentive to leaders and scholars in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to learn about research projects on the PCUSA denomination that were currently underway, and to catalyze new research on those findings. The main goal was to cultivate participation in and dissemination of research. They offered conferences and workshops and from those who participated, narrowed the pool of potential scholars to five, who then shadowed the project leaders. They added to the research projects underway and disseminated their findings among church bodies, in books, journals, periodicals, and commenced the production of a newsletter, Reformanda. The initial conference was held March 6-8, 1989.
