Abstract:

Pacific Lutheran Seminary conducted an oral history project on theological education in the 1960s, centered primarily on the Graduate Theological Union at Berkeley. Interviews were planned with more than eighty people who served as faculty of, or were associated with, GTU affiliated seminaries during the period from 1962 to 1974. They were transcribed, edited, and prepared for dissemination. The program garnered important information regarding a powerful and significant period in the nation's history and in the history of theological education. The interviews collected important insights and knowledge that might have otherwise been lost, making them available to those writing histories of theological education, as well as to those concerned about the future of theological education. Associates in the project included two faculty from GTU affiliated seminaries: Eldon G. Ernst, the American Baptist Seminary of the West, and Vernon L. Strempke, Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. (KA)
