the Reverend Sam Portaro, Jr., explored a new vocation/ profession-centered model of theological education for college and university students. After examining existing campus ministry programs, the project director then proceeded to suggest ways of improving upon the traditional paradigms that have typified campus ministry for decades. Brent House, the Episcopal Church campus ministry at the University of Chicago, responded to declining financial support and a weakened ministry network with an imaginative new experiment, which capitalized on issues of vocation and profession. Portaro consulted with historians and experts on campus ministry and theological education in creating his evaluation of the current campus ministry situation. The research project resulted in a book, Inquiring Minds and Discerning Hearts.
