The Protestant Minister and the Teaching Office of the Church

Abstract:

Steinmetz explores the implications of the indispensable teaching function of the ordained ministry for the minister's role in the church and for the necessity of seminary education. Theological schools exist only because the faithful transmission of the Word of God commits the church to the provision of a learned ministry; they probably provide the best way to accomplish that end, although their role is more instrumental than essential.
