Abstract:

Sandra Estanek's dissertation describes the Institute for Student Affairs at Catholic Colleges. Her theory in founding this institute was that student affairs professionals working in Catholic colleges and universities did not have a sufficiently sophisticated understanding of the Catholic intellectual tradition to perform effectively their primary responsibility of integrating student development theory with the religious tradition of their institutions. The dissertation includes sections on historical and theoretical contexts, the planning process, the pilot project, the evaluation of the Institute, and a postscript. A bibliography of resources is also included. This work is useful for student affairs professionals who want to develop student interventions based on both student development theory and Catholic teachings. (LT)
