Spiritual Awareness and the Formation of Character

Abstract:

At its best theology is informed, conditioned and facilitated by spiritual experience. Smith argues for openness and receptivity in education that allows for new perspectives on the divine and the human community, particularly in thinking theologically about the gospel in the context of a non-Christian world. Studying theology in the broad context of human religiousness is to appropriate an understanding of virtue -- which is character formation. (RG)
