Abstract:

In their article, "Over-Reporting Church Attendance in America," C. Kirk Hadaway, Penny Long Marler, and Mark Chaves address critical responses to their previously published article, “What the Polls Don’t Show: A Closer Look at U.S. Church Attendance.” This unique article provides a brief synopsis of their first article, a list of the critical reviews that it received, and Hadaway, Marler, and Chaves' responses to the reviews. Despite the critical responses, Hadaway, Marler, and Chaves confirm that there is no reason to revise their earlier findings and that the criticisms are not compelling or persuasive. Instead, the authors conclude that the critical comments strengthen the conclusions they made in their first article.
