Abstract:

"Out of the Woods," part of a series on Protestant nonprofit para-church organizations, is based on a survey of 340 Christian camps and conference centers from 45 states. Camps ranged in size from 40 persons served in 1993 to 70,000 persons. Seventy percent of the camps belong to Christian Camping International and 48 percent to the American Camping Association. This volume, written for those involved in directing or developing camp/conference ministries, addresses many issues related to fund- raising, including development program strategies, the role of camping leaders in development, developing a camp donor base, and the use of direct mail phone solicitation, special events, and other development tools. Public relations and marketing, cultivating major donors and conducting a capital campaign are also discussed. (SM)
