Abstract:

Richard Hughes suggests that Martin Luther, the sixteenth century Protestant reformer, and Sidney Mead, a twentieth century American religious historian, can be "faithful guides in the vocation of religious higher education" in the United States. Hughes argues that by using the work of these two men the traditional gap between American religious pluralism and the particularistic beliefs of different denominations can be bridged. (LT)
