Abstract:

Maria Eva Valle draws upon surveys, interviews, her experience as a participant-observer, newspapers, and archival materials in order to analyze the development of MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan) during two very important periods in its history. Valle's study compares the experience of the Mexican American students who founded the MEChA chapter at Arizona State University during the late 1960s and early 1970s with that of those who were active in the movement during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
