Empirical Cash Flow Distributions Revisited: An Information Technology Application to Short-term Financial Management

Abstract:

Zietlow describes several different ways to use computers and available software to analyze an organization's daily cash flow. These procedures are illustrated using cash flow data from six different organizations, one of which is a denominational mission organization with total assets of $6.1 million. Zietlow raises a key question: whether or not a cash management model developed using these techniques can outperform a treasurer using judgment to make cash transfers to and from an investment account.
