Deadlines: Faith at Work

Abstract:

Garret Keizer examines the definition of the term “deadline” and proposes that there are several pros to having deadlines. Keizer recalls Louie Armstrong’s words, “Never mind creativity, man, just give me a deadline.” Deadlines, Keizer suggests, can be a blessing. He proposes that deadlines compel us to seek help, force choices, and bring mercy. Although Keizer suspects that deadlines are losing their place in our world and that we seem to regard them as yet another barrier, he proposes that there are benefits to having them and that they need to be viewed as a chance to do rightly.
